This is the last of the two advanced advocacy trainings provided by MCADSV this year.
 
Shelter Rules Training: Creating Best Practices
June 5-6, 2013  
9:00am – 5:00pm each day
Holiday Inn Downtown, Helena, MT 

WHAT: Come to this training to discuss how our shelter rules can reflect our ideals and think through the practical problems rules are meant to address.  We will also spend time building skills for creating a cooperative, respectful shelter environment which honors each person’s dignity.  

WHO: To enhance the usefulness and effectiveness of this training, we are offering it to domestic violence program Advocates, Executive Directors and Shelter Directors/Managers.  An ideal situation is that each program can send one person with supervisory and policy making duties and also send an advocate.  If sending a “team” from your program doesn’t work, please register whoever works closely with your shelter policies and procedures.

PRESENTERS: Margaret Hobart, PhD works at the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV). Margaret has developed a curriculum and set of educational materials addressing rules and policies in domestic violence shelters which encourage critical thinking and making connections between shelter rules and program values. She has delivered this training in Washington, Oregon, Vermont, Georgia, New Hampshire, and West Virginia by invitation of each of those states’ DV Coalitions.

Deadria Boyland has worked at New Beginnings for Battered Women and their Children since 1992. She first started at New Beginnings shelter as a children's advocate, then moved into a women’s advocate position.  After providing women’s advocacy for several years she became the shelter program manager for 10 years, and now is the Program Manager of Community Advocacy Program.  She helped create WSCADV’s Shelter Rules training in 2006 and has been faculty for these trainings.

LODGING:  The training and a block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Downtown located at 22 North Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601. Reservations can be made by calling the Holiday Inn Downtown at: 406-443-2200.  Reservations made before Tuesday, May 13th will receive the special rate of $83 plus tax for single occupancy and $93 plus tax for double occupancy.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
